General information

The Romanesque Church of Peter and Paul features Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements and a steeple that is built above the chancel.

The first church was built around 1100 and featured a nave and a chancel oriented eastwards. The lintel of the former west portal and the choir arch originate from this period.

It is likely that the nave was remodelled in the Gothic style when the steeple was constructed around 1260. At the beginning of the 1950s, demolition work revealed a pointed and a double-pointed window. Both were incorporated accordingly into the walls during the rebuilding of the nave and are now clearly visible.

The former high altar is now on the northern side of the nave. The mighty pillars date from the transition period between the Renaissance and the Baroque. The styles of the early Baroque side altar from 1699 and the rococo pulpit from 1767 are also extremely interesting. In the chancel ceiling, valuable medieval frescos portraying the Passion of Christ were revealed in 1975.
