Adelhauserstraße 33, 79098 Freiburg
After 1687, the new building of Adelhauser monastery was erected on the former Tennenbacher monastery yard. The four-wing monastery facility, which is arranged around a square courtyard served as a substitute for several Dominican monasteries in Adelhausen, which were destroyed in the 30 years of war - located south of the Dreisam - in the territory of today's Unterwiehre.
After lifting the convention in 1867, the buildings were passed onto the possession of the city, which operated the girls’ school in Adelhausen until the last century.
Since 1931, the school building erected in 1855/56 at the Gerberau accommodated the Natural History Museum; in 1961, the collections of the Ethnological Museum were presented to the public in the premises of the new monastery, after they had been deposited there for over 30 years. In the former school building on the Marienstrasse, the "Museum of Contemporary Art" was opened in 1985.
