Burg Hanstein

Hanstein Castle, one of the largest and most beautiful castle ruins in central Germany, sits prominently on a hilltop. It is unclear exactly when it was built. Partially destroyed during the Thirty Years' War and never inhabited again, it can be visited today. It is not only the imposing sandstone walls that are impressive. From the castle tower, you can also enjoy a sweeping view of the mountains of the Thuringian Forest.
