In the Eichsfeld district, you can visit castles and palaces that range from romantic, overgrown ruins to magnificent half-timbered buildings. The Hülfensberg Franciscan monastery still attracts many pilgrims today, while Heilbad Heiligenstadt is popular with spa guests. Visitors to the Eichsfeld can also see remnants of the inner-German border fortifications, for example at the Schifflersgrund Border Museum.
