Elbmarschen
The extensive alluvial land on the Lower and Middle Elbe, which was created around 4,000 years ago as a result of global warming, is known as the Elbe marshes. With its heavy and fertile soils, the Elbe marshes provide a habitat and resting area for over 200 bird species. One of the best-known Elbe marshes is Dithmarschen, Europe's largest contiguous cabbage-growing area.
