Welcome to Elm-Lappwald

The Elm-Lappwald Nature Park is located in the districts of Wolfenbüttel and Helmstedt and comprises the wooded mountain ranges of Elm, Lappwald, Dorm, Eiz and Elz as well as the landscapes of Helmstedter Mulde, Rieseberg and Rieseberger Moor.
As one of thirteen nature parks in Lower Saxony, the Elm-Lappwald Nature Park covers an area of 470 square kilometers and invites you to hike, cycle and explore away from the main roads. Around 1000 different plant species, some of which are endangered, are at home here. The undulating hills to the east of Braunschweig surprise visitors with extensive forests, idyllic valleys, protected wetlands and heathland, spring-fed rivers, small lakes and numerous traces of prehistoric settlements, not to mention a variety of geological features.
The network of trails with a total length of around 500 km, signposted circular routes, parking lots and shelters, many benches and barbecue areas offers plenty of space for local recreation.
