The Francke Foundations in Halle an der Saale are home to a variety of social and educational institutions. Founded in 1698 by August Hermann Francke, the ensemble of buildings in the school town includes the historic orphanage, the longest half-timbered house in Europe and the theologian's home. You can look out over the grounds from the balcony of the baroque orphanage.
