Schönbornstraße, 76698 Ubstadt-Weiher
The community of Ubstadt-Weiher developed during the administrative and territorial reform in Baden-Württemberg from the formerly independent communities of Ubstadt, Stettfeld and Zeutern. The merger between Ubstadt and Weiher followed up on the 1st of April in 1970 – it was the fist voluntary merger during the reform phase in Baden-Württemberg. On September 1st 1971 Stettfeld merged as did Zeutern on the 1st of January in 1972.
Based on word of mouth of Bertha Benz herself and her two sons, Richard and Eugen, they received help here in Stettfeld.
During the first drive with the patented Benz motor vehicle in August 1888 the three encountered a technical problem. The lubricant for the driving chain was used up. Helpful factory workers of the nearby tobacco factory helped out with oil.
Nowadays this is referred back as the first automotive service station worldwide. The adventurous drive was a milestone in the history of automobile transportation and shaped the development of Baden-Württemberg.
