Geopark Porphyrland

Leipziger Straße 17 A, 04668 Grimma

Geopark Porphyrland
The Porphyry Land Geopark is the result of a prehistoric natural disaster. Around 290 million years ago, volcanic eruptions left visible traces in the Saxon landscape. Today you can admire bizarre formations of lava rock on the 2.7 km long porphyry trail. The Röcknitz geoportal tells the story of the region's origins, while stone quarrying equipment is on display in Hohburg.
