Why is the forest area here called "Hirschwinkel"?

The red deer area of the northern Black Forest begins in Bad Herrenalb. Deer also frequent the Hirschwinkel, as evidenced by tracks in the ground. Why is that so? Station 4 has the answer.

Walk from the parking lot to the hut with barbecue area. Be careful! A vehicle can always come along the public road!

What was the wall used for?

The particularly large parking lot is still occasionally used as a wood storage area. The wood used to be loaded onto carts and trucks from the wall. The timber industry was and still is important here. No wonder the southern of the two mountains here is called "Sägberg".

What rock is the wall made of?

It consists of pieces of granite 1, which are held in place by a concrete sheet pile wall 2. Both types of rock are visible at the wall crack. Concrete in this region is mainly made from cold-period Rhine debris (gravel). And where does the granite come from? (see station 2)

To the right of the wall, follow the hiking trail with the yellow rhombus leading uphill to the Sägberg for about 200 meters in the direction of "Tahlwiesenhütten" and "Axtloh".

After a long left-hand bend on the plateau, you reach a point with a path that turns sharply to the left, the "Pflanzschulweg". Stay on the previous path here.
