GeoTour Waldbronn

All about water

1: Thermal water from rock debris

Who discovers the Albtherme, Waldbronn's thermal spa?

The Albtherme is also home to Waldbronn's tourist information office. Not only are further GeoTour brochures available here, but the complete Geo-Discovery Set can also be purchased here.

Where does the water for this thermal spa come from?

The thermal water, which is still 20.5 degrees Celsius on the surface, comes from hundreds of meters below the surface, from the underground Kraichgau basin. This is where the erosion debris of a high mountain range was deposited, which covered today's Black Forest 330 million years ago and was already completely eroded 250 million years ago. However, to this day, the mountain range still has an impact on our usage possibilities via its erosion debris.
Debris 1 (deposits of the Permian Rotliegend formation), which is at least 2,000 m thick under Waldbronn, lies beneath the rocks of the red sandstone formation and provides the thermal water with its valuable minerals.

Follow the mountain road towards the spa gardens, past the SRH Health Center Waldbronn, until a signpost at the edge of the forest marks the hiking trail. Turn right here onto this hiking trail with blue path lighting and follow it in the direction of the "Waldpark" for approx. 100 m until you can see a raised pond to the left of the path. Turn left here and walk up to the pond. Caution: Only take children to the edge of the pond under supervision or led by the hand! The stones around the pond can be slippery!
