As the birthplace of Karl May, Hohenstein-Ernstthal is dedicated to the Wild West author. His home is now a museum that presents May's life story using personal artefacts and multimedia information boards. The Karl May hiking trail presents important stations of the writer's life, including a cave where he once allegedly hid from the police.
