Welcome to Kloster Loccum 1163

In 1163, an abbot from the Cistercian monastery of Volkenroda came to Loccum from Thuringia with twelve monks to found a new settlement here. It was named after the Lucca Castle. Construction began in 1240. Today, Loccum Monastery is one of the best-preserved Cistercian monasteries north of the Alps.
