In addition to extensive lakes, the Steinhuder Meer Nature Park is also known for its dinosaur tracks. Around 140 million years ago, the giant lizards left footprints that are still visible today. Rehburg-Loccum is also home to Germany's largest dinosaur park. The descendants of the dinosaurs can also be observed: The Steinhuder Meer is home to rare bird species such as sea eagles and ospreys.
