While ponds and lakes characterise the north of Upper Lusatia, the Lusatian Highlands extend to the south. This can be explored on a long-distance hiking trail over 100 kilometres long. Not far from the long-distance hiking trail is the old capital of Bautzen, which tells you more about the culture of the Sorbs. You can also visit an original prison from the GDR era.
