The medieval Bertholdsburg Castle sits enthroned in the centre of the small town of Schleusingen at the confluence of the Erle and Nahe rivers. In the 15th and 16th centuries it was converted into a Renaissance-style residence . The castle is also known for its seven towers, of which the 40 metre high main tower now serves as a viewing platform. Bertholdsburg Castle also houses a natural history museum.
