Schloss Eisfeld

Marktplatz 2, 98673 Eisfeld

Schloss Eisfeld
In the part of Thuringia characterised by the Franconians, the 11th and 12th centuries saw the emergence of a new town. The castle was built in the 9th century on the remains of a former Frankish manor house from the 9th century. In its chequered history, it has been used as a residence, official building and prison, among other things. Today, it houses the "Otto Ludwig" Museum, where more than 22,000 exhibits are on display.
