Located directly on Dollart Bay, Emden has a long history as a seaport. Today, museum ships can be admired in the historic harbour, while the industrial harbour is still bustling with trade. In the old town, the so-called "Pelzerhäuser" convey the atmosphere of Emden in the 16th century. Meanwhile, "Dat Otto Huus" honours one of the city's most famous sons, the well-known East Frisian comedian Otto Waalkes.
