Thermenallee, 79189 Bad Krozingen
Intensive farming used to take place with maize and wheat cultivation etc. on an area covering approx. 5,000 m². After the area was bought up by Kur und Bäder GmbH, the fields were turned into an ecological orchard.
Heinrich Scherer, a farmer from Bad Krozinger, takes care of the land. Kur und Bäder GmbH planted apples, pears and cherries as German types of fruit. A full-scale harvest is expected to take place after 8 to 10 years.
The plan is to use the fruit to make "Vita Classica Schnaps". The orchard also has the advantage that bees can fly around and small creatures such as birds and insects have an additional, protected habitat.
Kur und Bäder GmbH plans to gradually change intensively farmed fields into orchards.
