Synagogue

General information:

In the pogrom night of 9 to 10 November 1938, the synagogue on Werthmannplatz was set on fire by SS and SA men. In 1987, the new community centre near the cathedral was opened.

The Jewish community in Freiburg is a traditional one and it was founded again in 1945 after the war. At that time, only a few Jews found their way back to Freiburg - to this day, the community has grown to over 700 members.
