Tharandter Wald
The Tharandt Forest stretches south of the town of the same name. The TU Dresden's "Forest Botanical Garden" located there is home to around 3,200 different trees and shrubs. Around 200 kilometres of paths invite you to hike with views of mighty rock formations. The latter bear witness to the volcanic activity of the region. A detour to the ruins of Tharandt Castle, perched on a mountain spur, is also worthwhile.
