General information:

A steady upward trend of gaming operation and public interest in theatre life already led the desire for a new, larger, more beautiful theatre building grow in the nineties of the 19th century.

In April 1901, in the Civil Committee, the foundation was laid for a new building. From 22 contributions in competition, the design by architect Heinrich Seeling was proposed for implementation. Apart from the economic aspects, spatial-aesthetic reasons were important for Seeling's design of a gallery theatre. The latter are still valid today.

The magnificent auditorium lost its treat due to the conversion in 1939. During air raid of 27 November 1944, the theatre was destroyed by fire and was not renewed in its full glory after the war.
