Welcome to

In order to make room for the 1967 Federal Horticultural Show at Karlsruhe Zoo and Stadtgarten, the **Oberwald Zoo** was established in 1965. Today, it has become an integral part of the city's cultural and recreational facilities. In the middle of a large, enclosed recreational forest close to the city, weather-resistant wild animals from temperate and cold zones live on 16 hectares in open enclosures, each measuring several thousand square meters. Everyone is welcome to observe the animals in their natural habitats. You can cycle, walk, and even bring your dog (on a leash). At Oberwald Zoo, humans and animals alike can enjoy the fresh, unpolluted forest air. The animal enclosures are deliberately left raw and uncultivated on natural forest soil.
