In 1996, the two Luther memorials in Lutherstadt Eisleben were honoured with the title "UNESCO World Heritage Site". These include Martin Luther's birth and death houses. The former is one of the oldest museums in the world. In addition, the reconstructed baptismal font in the late Gothic hall church of St Peter and Paul still commemorates the baptism of the famous reformer.
