**The wines of Ortenau **
Ortenau is home to Riesling, but it is also Burgundy country. Riesling enjoys a worldwide reputation as the king of white wines. This racy, elegant wine with its fruity acidity and exquisite bouquet has been at home here for over 225 years.
The cradle of Klingelberger, as Riesling is known here, is in the Ortenau region. In 1782, Margrave Carl Friedrich von Baden replanted the Klingelberg vineyard near Staufenberg Castle in Durbach exclusively with Riesling vines, thus creating the first single-varietal vineyard in Baden.
But the Ortenau region is also Burgundy country. Pinot Noir red wines are the "aristocrats among red wines." These wines are full-bodied, powerful, with a slight blackberry tone.
The hearty and full-bodied Pinot Noir Weißherbst (rosé) blends in harmoniously. In the Ortenau region, it is made exclusively from the blue Pinot Noir grape. Grauer Burgunder is the fruity, elegant variant of Ruländer. Weißer Burgunder, often referred to as the Riesling of the Burgundy family, is a harmonious, elegant wine with a subtle bouquet.
The full-bodied Clevner or Traminer combines a balanced alcohol content and low acidity with a very fine bouquet with a scent of wild roses.
The same variety as the Clevner is the Gewürztraminer, a spicy, bouquet-rich wine with a often nuanced flavor profile and a distinctive varietal character. Müller-Thurgau, a cross between Riesling and Gutedel vines, captivates with its fruity freshness and delicate muscat notes. Very popular as a Vierteles wine.
**Klingelberger 1782 – The special Riesling from the Ortenau region**
The cradle of Klingelberger is in the Ortenau region. Here on the Klingelberg near Staufenberg Castle in Durbach, Margrave Carl Friedrich von Baden replanted exclusively Riesling Würzlinge and Riesling seedlings in 1782, thus creating the first single-varietal vineyard in Baden.
Every year, special bottles are produced under the name "Klingelberger 1782" as an outward sign of the preservation of this original Riesling grape variety. The winegrowers cultivate Klingelberger 1782 exclusively on steep slopes with great effort, with the aim of preserving the originality and uniqueness of its origin.
