Former “Grether-Kym'sches” mansion

Hauptstraße 48, 79650 Schopfheim

At a glance:

The mansion was built between 1856 and 1865 by the manufacturer Carl Wilhelm Grether, a partner in the Gottschalk cotton mill. It was the residence of Anna Kym-Krafft, honorary Schopfheim citizen and granddaughter of the builder. She was born in 1856 in St. Blasien and lived in the mansion from 1878 until her death in 1944. Anna Kym-Krafft led the Schopfheim’s women’s association for 25 years, utilising her standing for the benefit of the public and the socially vulnerable. Around 1960, the mansion was converted into three commercial buildings.
