Erbprinzenstr. 14, 76133 Karlsruhe
The Parish Church of St. Stephen is the oldest Catholic church in Karlsruhe. It was built by Friedrich Weinbrenner and consecrated in 1814.
The church has the shape of a cruciform round church with four equally sized cross arms, a church tower and a portico at the main portal to the south. It is one of the most important classicist domed churches in south-west Germany. The church was severely damaged in an air raid in 1944 and rebuilt between 1951 and 1955.
Grand Duke Karl Friedrich had made the square in Erbprinzenstraße available to the Catholics in Karlsruhe. The church was dedicated to Saint Stephen in honor of Princess Stephanie, an adopted daughter of Napoleon. The princess had joined the Catholic community in Baden after her marriage. The interior of the church was renovated and rebuilt in 2011.You can see the current times for church services here.Further information can also be found in the Karlsruhe city dictionary.
