Gertrudensteig, 17166 Teterow
The second Teterow Museum of Local History was opened in 1958 on the initiative of district monument conservator Heinrich Timm and engineer Ludwig Höppner. It was housed in three rooms together with the corridors of the former Gertrudenstift. Already in June 1955 an appeal was made to collect museum exhibits for a new museum. The resonance was great. Within a few days, more than 300 objects came together for the exhibition. At the opening, the collection included finds from prehistory and early history, evidence of early craftsmanship in Teterow and a home room with old furniture, many small parts, paintings, diplomas and old photographs. The council decision of the district council of Neubrandenburg of January 23, 1964, to raise the profile of the local history museums brought many larger museums to specialize, but for many smaller museums it meant the end of. This also led to the closure of the Teterow Museum. Most of its collections went to larger museums. Today there is again an attractive museum 200 meters from here in the Malchin Gate.
