The history of the former mill until its current-day use as a pottery workshop has been characterized by some notable individuals. From 1834 to September 1849, Michael Müller was the mill owner and operator of the then called Untere Mühle zu Dautenstein. He was also mayor of the municipality from 1844 to 1849 and one of the many victims of the Baden Revolution in 1848/49. His pursuit of freedom for the people of Baden had a high and merciless price: he was imprisoned for committing high treason.
Jakob Brucker took over the mill in 1853. Otto Brucker known locally as Bruckerle and his wife Marie closed the mill at the end of the 1950s.
Since the 1980s, Georg Hach has used the former mill as a pottery workshop. He achieves highly artistic effects by using an Asian designed wood-burning kiln. One firing in this kiln last three days during which the kiln is continuously heated day and night. The ceramics obtain their special, distinctive look as a result. Come and see for yourself!
