Welcome to Forst

Forst is a very attractive place to live. It is the home to several small sized businesses and part of the agglomeration of Karlsruhe-Mannheim-Heidelberg with a wide ranges cultural and sportive range.

Historical Trivia

The name dates back to the first settlement on a glade in the” Lußhartwald” (a forest, “Forst” as an antiquated German word for forest). As findings from the Stone- and Bronze Age confirm the now community of Forst was settled from very early on – even the Romans left their traces. First proper naming of the community is found in a document in 1161 in a deed of the emperor Barbarossa the Great. In 1803 Forst became part of the grand duchy of Baden.

Culture

The hunters and foresters lodge, which was erected in 1747 as the residence for the prince bishops first in command hunter, is a two storied manorial baroque building. The house was purchased by the community, refurbished and renovated and turned into a meeting place for the inhabitants of Forst. Another important public building is the 1991 erected public library on “Langenstraße”. Exhibitions, author’s readings, school group tours, children’s theatre, literary breakfasts and brunches, thematic book presentations as well as evening events are held and organized by the libraries team. Volunteers read aloud, bring stories to life and create an interest for books in events for children.

Tourism

The close proximity of the motorway A5 as well as a nationally connected train route via the train station in Bruchsal enables visitors with fast access to the metropolitan areas of Karlsruhe and Stuttgart as well as Heidelberg and Mannheim. An extended public transportation net has even improved the mobility of inhabitants and visitors alike.

With a newly renovated sporting hall, the “Waldseehalle”, and good parking facilities enabled local sporting and other societies to build a good fundament for their work.

In close proximity to the amusement park “Heidesee” several societies found place to erect a wildlife park, a forest playground, a riding hall, a clubhouse and a bird reservoir. The popular local recreation area draws spectators and visitors from far and close.

The range is completed by the 1995 finished “Waldseestadion” (Forest Lake Stadium). A total of 4 grass floors, an athletics track and the newly erected sanitary building offer local sporting clubs and societies an ideal framework. An outside tennis court as well as an indoor court including a soccer area, the close ranging “Hohenrainhalle” (Hohenrain Sporting Arena) of the athletes club Forst round up the sportive range surrounding the “Waldsee”.
