The “Neue Krone” restaurant can be traced back to the year 1706, although this building is actually even older. The “Neue Krone” was the regular meeting place of Schopfheim’s “reading society” from 1844 to about 1930; reading societies emerged in Germany with the goal of promoting German culture as well as literary and moral education. During the time of the Baden Revolution, democratic-minded citizens of Schopfheim met up here as well.
