They are building stones from the foundations of Roman buildings from excavations in Entengasse in the 1980s. So it's no wonder that it is Badischer Bausandstein, the best building stone of the red sandstone formation (see Station 8)
Not the Romans this time, but the Ettlingen artist of the Roman fountain, Prof. Volker Erhard. He has partially carved the Roman stones and tried to incorporate references to the Roman Neptune stone (Station 2).
This riddle is solved at Station 17.
Excavations have shown that there are stones under the church that once belonged to a Roman bath building from the 2nd century AD.
The Roman stonemasons were already familiar with the high quality of the Badischer Bausandstein (station 8). By the way: parts of the ruins of the Roman baths are accessible and can be visited as the only architectural evidence of the Romans in Ettlingen.
The path leads between St. Martin's Church on the left and the Alb on the right for about 100 meters straight ahead to the Ettlingen market square. On the right, you can see the town hall tower with the town gate. Follow the signpost in the direction of "Kaisereiche" and walk through the old town gate. Stop immediately after the town gate.
