Who discovers rock block 1?

Which rock is it?

Small milk quartz pebbles trapped in the rock 2 prove it: It is a boulder sandstone.

How did the rock block get here?

The block slid down here from further up. At a time when there was only moss, lichen and dwarf shrubs here instead of forest: At the end of the last glacial period, around 13,000 years ago, the permafrost began to thaw more and more from above. As the subsoil was still frozen, a mixture of soil, stones and plants began to move down the slope and slide down the valley.
While the finer material has been washed away since the end of the last glacial period, the larger blocks have remained here to this day. They are called "moving blocks". It looks like these were in the way of the construction of the forest path and were pushed aside by the workers. Incidentally, at the end of the last glacial period, not only individual blocks migrated (Station 7).

For which "geo-plants" does the boulder provide an important habitat?

Above all for mosses, which have no competition from other plants here. Here for the thuja moss 3 (Thuidium spec.).

Continue for about 200 m until another forest road joins from the left. Turn left onto this. Be careful! After approx. 20 m, a barely recognizable forest path branches off to the right. Follow this for a short detour into the forest until you see small hills and small pits.
