General information

Surrounded by the Geroldseck hills, St. Nikolaus’ Catholic Church dominates the Seelbach skyline. The original, small Romanesque church was mentioned in a document from 1179 by Pope Alexander III. Its present-day appearance is from 1749 when the church was demolished and rebuilt in rural Baroque style. The Baroque choir includes the Baroque high altar and the Baroque side alters.

The elements of mendicant architecture emphasise the church’s simplicity and can be traced back to the influence of the Franciscan monks in Seelbach. The Immaculate Conception of Mary, standing on the world, is also one of the special features of the Church of St. Nikolaus.

Particularly treasured is the Stieffel organ from 1781 whose sound delights all music lovers. One of the largest pipes documents its famous builder: Ferdinand Stieffel from Rastatt.
