Marktstraße 6, 77960 Seelbach
Located in the former monastery garden, Seelbach’s community centre – the Bürgerhaus – offers a mix of cultural and social activities. The centre’s individual appearance is characterised by its modern, skeletal design dominated by wood – over 600 cubic metres to be exact. Since its opening in 1982, the Bürgerhaus provides a year-round setting for events, concerts, exhibitions and gatherings. March’s annual culture festival, the Kulturtage Seelbach, is a fixed date in the events’ calendar.
The outdoor space in front of the Bürgerhaus is used as an open-air stage for various events. The highlight of the year is the Freilichtspiele Seelbach. These theatrical performances take place every September with international actors and actresses as well as local amateurs.
The start of the Katharinenfest, mentioned at the beginning, also takes place in the Klostergarten in November. The granting of the market rights from 1455 is commemorated in a historic re-enactment. The author of the piece is the poet and chronicler Wilhelm Fischer who died in Seelbach and is remembered on a memorial stone in front of the Bürgerhaus.
Have you already discovered the Narrenbrunnen fountain? Next to the witches mask you will find an owl mask, the typical mask of the local carnival club, the Eulenzunft-Seelbach. The fountain was inaugurated in February 2000 on the 33rd anniversary of the club’s foundation.
There is also a fountain with a double-headed dragon in the Klostergarten – the Drachenbrunnen. The historic background to this water feature is a dispute between the Lützelhardt and Geroldseck families in the 13th century.
