General information

The impressive ‘Obere Mühle’ building complex at the top of the Litschen Valley has had a number of uses in its lifetime. Until 1904, it was used exclusively as a mill. Engineer Konrad Goldmann converted the building into an electricity plant which supplied Seelbach, Wittelbach and Reichenbach with electricity from 1905 to 1920. In 1928 Georg Suhm leased the building complex. He installed a sawmill and established a crate-making factory. The sawmill was in operation until 1998. In 1930 the municipality of Seelbach turned the halls of the former chemical factory into a bathhouse with tubs and shower facilities for the townsfolk. A wool-spinning mill and a manufacturer of industrial signs also had their businesses within the building complex. Today, the mill is used for residential purposes.
