Welcome to Botanical Gardens

The **Botanical Garden** is located on the edge of the palace gardens, near the Orangery. It is considered the "green oasis" in the middle of the royal seat of Karlsruhe. The garden is home to over **20 special tree species** from different continents. # Karlsruhe Botanical Garden The Botanical Garden was laid out in the 18th century by Carl Christian Gmelin under Margrave Karl Friedrich (1746-1811). Between 1853 and 1857, the court architect Heinrich Hübsch added new plant houses. Although it is no longer a botanical garden in the strict scientific sense—at one time, over 40,000 different plants from almost every region of the world grew there—it still houses twenty particularly noteworthy tree species from different continents. Fountain basins, sculptures, a café terrace under the frame structure of the former winter garden, and the small but definitely worth seeing greenhouses with their exotic rarities. The people of Karlsruhe **love** their botanical garden. From spring to fall, it blooms in lush splendor. Many newlyweds have their photos taken in front of the picturesque backdrop of the greenhouses and exotic plants.
