Welcome to Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Garden is located on the edge of the palace gardens, close to the Orangery. It is considered the "green oasis" in the middle of the royal city of Karlsruhe. The garden is home to over 20 special tree species from different continents. There are also numerous greenhouses with tropical plants and display houses with cacti . Botanical Garden Karlsruhe The botanical garden was created in the 18th century under Margrave Karl Friedrich (1746-1811) by Carl Christian Gmelin. It was given new plant houses by the residential architect Heinrich Hübsch between 1853 and 1857. Although it is no longer a botanical garden in the strict scientific sense - at times, over 40,000 different plants from almost all regions of the world grew there - it still houses twenty particularly noteworthy tree species from various continents. Fountain basins, sculptures, a café terrace under the frame construction of the former conservatory and the small, but definitely worth seeing greenhouses with their exotic rarities. The people of Karlsruhe love their botanical garden. It blooms in lush splendor from spring to autumn. Many wedding couples have their photos taken against the picturesque backdrop of the greenhouses and the exotic flora. You can find out more about the history of the Botanic Garden in an exhibition in the archway building. Further information can be found at Botanical Garden . Tip On cold days, it is worth taking a stroll through the small, but definitely worth seeing greenhouses with their exotic rarities.
