Welcome to

The monument honors Grand Duke Karl Friedrich (1728-1811), who was a pioneer of his time with his long reign of 65 years and his reform achievements. Grand Duke Karl Friedrich paved the way for the independence of the judiciary and the abolition of torture and serfdom. Karl Friedrich holds the document abolishing serfdom in Baden in his right hand at the monument. The monument was erected by sculptor Ludwig Schwanthaler and unveiled in 1844.
