Durlacher Allee 23, 76131 Karlsruhe
From the outside, the Lutherkirche at Durlacher Tor appears massive at first glance. However, once you step inside, you can experience the wonderful Art Nouveau interior.
The interior of the church, which was designed by Robert Curjel and Karl Moser from 1905, focuses on a centrally positioned depiction of the Sermon on the Mount as a relief by sculptor Hermann Binz. All the surrounding walls and the ceiling are ornamental. The pews are grouped in a semicircle around the central axis of the organ, pulpit and altar. Special details include the large chandelier and the stained glass windows, although these are no longer the originals by Max Laeuger, but were redesigned by the former rector of the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe, Klaus Arnold, in 1960.
