Welcome to Speyer Cathedral

Speyer Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Stephen is the mother church of the diocese of Speyer and the parish church of the Speyer cathedral parish. It was founded by Salian emperors, who had it built in the 11th century as a sign of their responsibility for the whole of Christendom as the largest known church in the western world at the time. Today, it is an outstanding testament to Romanesque architecture and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981.
Admission times and fees for the crypt, Imperial Hall and tower can be found on the notice board on site. A public lecture on cathedral history is held every Saturday at 10 a.m. Meeting point at the north transept (duration approximately 30 min.)

The Imperial Hall and tower can be accessed free of charge by PfalzCard holders.
