Mecklenburgische Seenplatte

The Mecklenburg Lake District is a result of the last ice age. This not only threw up striking mounds of earth, but also created lakes that gave the area its name. This includes the Müritz: Germany's largest inland waterway, whose eastern shore is characterised by the densely forested Müritz National Park. The region is also characterised by its fieldstone churches, which were built in the Middle Ages.
