Saarlouis Festungsstadt

Großer Markt 8, 66740 Saarlouis

Saarlouis Festungsstadt
The strictly geometric hexagonal layout of the former fortress still defines Saarlouis town centre today. It was designed in 1680 by none other than the famous French master builder Vauban at the behest of its namesake Louis XIV. The historic casemates and the remains of the fortress walls in the Saaraltarm recreation area can still be visited today.
