# The Fascination of the Danube Seepage—Unique in the World On this tour, the culinary highlight is the power of the broth... A grand tour exploring the globally unique phenomenon of the Danube seepage. Along the surface course of the Danube on the Danube Cycle Path to the Danube Gorge near Fridingen, and from there via Neuhausen ob Eck to the source of the Aach in Hegau, then back to the major sinkholes near Immendingen. Between Immendingen and Fridingen in the Danube Uplands, the Young Danube sinks back into the ground—at least in part—shortly after its “start” in Donaueschingen. On many days of the year, it even disappears completely. Part of the Danube’s water continues to flow on the surface toward the east into the Black Sea, while the other part “dives” underground and flows southward, resurfacing at the “Aachquelle” and flowing from there into Lake Constance; together with the waters of the Rhine, it then flows westward and northward, ultimately reaching the North Sea.
