The Donaufelsen Tour is the longest of the six Donauwellen premium trails in the Donaubergland. Unforgettable views from the glowing cliffs above the Danube between Fridingen and Buchheim alternate with stretches along the Danube. Important note for the hiking season: The former Donausteg (pedestrian bridge over the Danube) at the ford near the "Jägerhaus" between Fridingen and Beuron no longer exists, as it was completely destroyed some time ago by flooding of the Danube. However, the town of Fridingen has replaced the stepping stones previously in place in the Danube ford with significantly larger, higher, and flatter ones, making the crossing much easier. Crossing the Danube at this point is therefore only possible — at your own risk — via the stepping stones, depending on the water level. Tip: If you are on site and cannot get across the Danube, feel free to contact the Stehle family at the "Jägerhaus" inn: Tel. +49 7466 254. The Stehle family will usually have advice and can offer spontaneous assistance. If you would still like to hike the full tour in the event of water levels being too high, we recommend following the Donauberglandweg from the Jägerhaushöhle to Beuron and then returning from there on the left bank of the Danube to Knopfmacherfelsen. This extends the tour by approx. 4.5 km. The tour: The Donaufelsen Tour is the longest of our DonauWellen premium trails, a very special tour through the ups and downs of the landscape with unforgettable views from the glowing cliffs above the Danube, alternating with stretches along the Danube riverbank in the gorge valley between Fridingen and Beuron. It was certified again by the German Hiking Institute in spring 2026 and awarded the German Hiking Seal for three years. Route: Knopfmacherfelsen – Stiegelsfelsen Nature Reserve – Laibfelsen – Ziegelhütte, Kallenberg Ruins – Bronnen Castle – Bronner Caves – Jägerhaushöhle – Jägerhaus, crossing the Danube – Knopfmacherfelsen.
