Welcome to
A private bird of prey sanctuary in the moat of Hohenbeilstein Castle. Visitors can see 100 birds of prey from four continents, with regular flight demonstrations.
Hohenbeilstein Castle towers atop a hill above the winding half-timbered streets of the town of Beilstein. Today, Hohenbeilstein is home to a falconry center renowned far beyond the region, which delights many visitors with its fascinating flight demonstrations—eagles, vultures, and other birds of prey circle majestically over Beilstein.
### Castle Falconry
On a tour through the moat, visitors discover the great diversity of the world of birds of prey. On perches and perches with shelters, as well as modern breeding enclosures—built and furnished according to the animals’ needs, the latest scientific findings, and above all for the animals’ well-being—around 100 birds of prey from 4 continents can be seen.
### Flight Demonstrations
The flight demonstrations take place in the castle courtyard. The highlight is the various species of vultures with wingspans of nearly 3 meters. When thermal conditions are optimal, the vultures of the Hohenbeilstein Castle Falconry circle at an altitude of approximately 2,000 meters. But the training exercises, combination flights, and rapid hunting flights of the other bird of prey species are also spectacular to watch.
Flight demonstrations by the Hohenbeilstein Castle Falconry typically begin on Good Friday at the following set times:
- on weekdays, except Mondays, at 3:00 p.m.
- on Sundays and holidays at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
- During summer vacation, daily at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., except Mondays
- During the winter months, starting November 5, only on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m.
- For groups of 20 or more with 2 days’ advance notice, also possible on weekdays at 11 a.m.
### Castle Complex & Castle Restaurant
Today, the castle consists of the so-called “Langhans,” a 27-meter-high, pentagonal keep, as well as the outer bailey, which is now used as a falconry center and restaurant.
Outside of the castle falconry’s flight times, the castle grounds are freely accessible.
