71263 Weil der Stadt
Weil, which was elevated to the status of a town between 1220 and 1237, played an important role as a trading town from the late Middle Ages onwards. Its location on two intersecting highways and the long-distance trade carried out by the hamlets made Weil der Stadt an attractive market and trading town. In the times of the imperial city, this was reflected in the weekly market as well as a total of six grocers' markets held on the market square.
Today's houses on the market square were built after the devastating town fire of 1648 and still characterize the picturesque townscape today.
The market square was redesigned in 2020 and completed as a traffic-calmed center in 2021. Today, the square is not only a marketplace, but also the hub of many festivals and highlights in the town around the Kepler monument. Thanks to the traffic calming, the square has gained in atmosphere and coziness and has become even more popular as a meeting place, which is also helped by the restaurants on the market square.
