Overview
This building has been an attraction since the half-timbering was exposed in 1981. Two unevenly high houses with uneven stories have a common gable. Dendrochronological examinations determined the year of construction as being 1680.
A closer examination of the half-timbering opens new possibilities of interpreting the construction year: The façades of the lower floors have much more simple half-timbering than the gable with its Franconian style patterns dating to the 16th and 17th Centuries. This seems to mean, that the original buildings were very small and each one had its own gable. The common gable was built in 1680 joining both houses.
Over the centuries the owners of the building changed many times. The house is named after more recent owners: a plumber’s workshop “Saur” was in house number 15 and a hat store “Großmann” was in number 17.
