Overview
This striking building was spared from the numerous fires in the 19th Century, although the top story was singed in 1893.
In older descriptions as well as on old maps, there is a large house dating from the late Middle Ages, which is thought to be this building. In 1675 Hans Jakob Gännßlin, who was a butcher and an innkeeper, ran an inn here called “Zum grünen Baum” (To the Green Tree).
The construction of the half-timbered house with large windows and the former goods elevator indicates that its original function was that of a trading company. For many generations the building belonged to one of Nagold’s wealthiest families, the clan of traders and mayors Stottele/Schmid/Sautter, who were close to pietism.
During the 19th Century the house had several owners. In 1863 the pharmacist Carl Oeffinger purchased it and established a pharmacy. Herman Schmid bought the pharmacy in 1893. Since then it has been family owned and operated.
